Our History

In 1950 Mr B.M.H.B Balasooriya the founder of samanala group businesses started as a coconut collecting centre with his Malwanegedara village small coconut estate owners with the name of samanala Transport. He was the largest coconut collector of the area at the time period. Along with the coconut collecting business he started manufacturing copra and sold to major companies in sri lanka such as BCC Lanka Ltd and sedawatta oil mills in Colombo.

In late 1972 he expanded the business with diversifying to starting his traditional type fiber mill with his inherited land and started manufacturing bristle fibre and one tie fibre to major companies in sri lanka.

In 1996 Mr B.M.H.B Balasooriya’s son Mr Gamini Malwanegedara expanded the business furthermore to the international level by entering into manufacturing and exporting coconut substrates products to the worldwide.

Beginning of 1996 the samanala exports name was gone to international level with lot of struggle and it was a huge winning milestone to the company. The company exported directly to the countries such as Japan, France, spain & middle east countries at the time period and up to now.

The former Director of the company been the president of the exporters association of coconut based substrates (EACBS) in 2019 and did a lot to the exporter in the industry. The company is a member of Coconut Development Authority (CDA), Sri Lanka standard institution – GMP holder, Export Development Board member,

Currently experienced more than 25 years of exporting experience and other business skills. since age of 18’s entrepreneur career life started. He schooled in Ananda college, Colombo

Mrs K. Madara Gunapala

Director of samanala Exports company
Mrs k. Madara Gunapala joined the samanala exports company in late 1996 year and handled the labor division and the accounting division in the start.

Currently experienced more than 20 years of required skills of the company.

She first schooled in St. Bridget and schooled in holy Family Convent Kurunegala.
